magnetik north is live drum electronics. drum performances are fed through processors, samplers and sequencers to produce layers of rhythmic patterns that interact with each other. other instruments are melted into different textures so that only the harmonic content remains. this is a new project from ian tregoning, engineer and producer for artists as diverse as yello and fela kuti. now working with jaki liebezeit, the legendary drummer from can, to add his endless evolving rhythms. jaki s in a world of his own as he balances technical brilliance with subtle restraint. recording started in the summer 2006 in an old jazz studio in the south of ko&#776,,,,ln. jaki arrived with a minimal drum kit including customised cymbals, a snare and a huge gretsch floor-tom from the can days. all of jaki s performances are complete takes with no drop-ins, loops or edits. the backing tracks for evolver were recorded without using key changes. each song features one key which is held continuously while other instruments and effects are blended with the key. drums (also tuned to the same key) were added last which is another unusual technique. as jaki says they re often overlooked as tuned instruments in their own right . the finished results are a minimal blend of industrial and classical. like listening to a raga in an earthquake.

its not often you stumble upon a 9 piece soul band, who were so close to signing a deal with mca�s new subsidiary source records. but group politics and other factors got in the way, and the band shelved what music they had recorded. no reels surfaced but fortunately a member had kept some of those 1978 recordings. between the two seemed to fuse great soul compositions without the durge of the disco era circa 1978. with well thought out lyrics, backed by keys, trumpets and a driving bassline we really are pleased to add the group to the super disco edit roster.

the first full artist ep of 2018 is one by a new artist for heist, but a familiar name for any modern day house aficionado: adryiano. after taking 2016 off, he came back guns blazing in 2017, releasing 5 solo eps in 1 year on labels like shall not fade and baka gaijin. his me and you and her ep for heist showcases his contemporary view on classic house and acid, and is an experiment into how much distortion a track can actually handle when youve got a killer sample hook. me and you and her is about as classic as a house track can be and moves in similar fashion as his post-2013 hit �on my side. its got a sweet and repetitive vocal loop, some semi-grainy but definitely groovy percussion and a deceptively simple piano hook. add some filtering and youve got a lovely warm house song that can go on forever. the a2 move it, move it moves straight into old-school chicago territory, with a raw af acid bassline. chicago bred jamie 3:26, now residing in its dutch counterpart rotterdam, gives the track a nice old school twist. hes going full 707 on the percussion and has casually added an amazing synth hook to give the remix a true vibe of its own. the ep closes off with fashion country girl: adryianos dystopian view of a world where dolly parton gets mangled through an overdrive, then gets distorted, crushed, mangled, deleted, re-added in 8 bit and then crushed some more. the result is an uptempo roller with more than enough grit, and just enough tongue-in-cheek to make everyone smile a little bit more. yours sincerely, maarten & lars.

adesse versions has been dropping some choice originals and edits on a host of renowned and respected labels for the last four years and we�re proud to add him to the esteemed list of artists to release on delusions of grandeur. from early white labels on make love in public spaces and his own adesse versions label through to his recent outings on heist, numbers, razor n tape, let�s play house and local talk, he continuous to impress with his raw, sample-heavy production which brings pure energy to the dance floor. for his pulp fusion ep, adesse presents three diverse and brilliant cuts, all showing off his deft touch in the studio and providing what we feel is his strongest work to date. pulp fusion leads the a side with cutting clavinets doubling up the syncopated bassline, a super-charged romp where disco meets filtered house resulting in a track with widespread appeal despite its raw and underground approach. the a2 entitled fade out drops the bpm�s for a string-drenched, philly soul jam, heavy on percussion but with a gentle lilt and balearic vibe that makes it perfect for the wind down. last but definitely not your average b side filler we have the mighty raw in its live edit incarnation. militantly minimal in sonic palate, this jacked up house track simply rocks the spot thanks to adesses ballsy arrangement,production prowess and nasty bassline, rounding off this ep with a punch

the title track empty dancefloor combines a thumping kick drum, stuttering hats and mesmeric chords, a combination that prove to be the perfect backing track to a captivating synth solo. its extremely difficult not to find yourself lost in this enchanting track. fracture- is a track where skygaze really showcases his ability to combine broken beat, complex drum patterns with bewitching chords, magical marimbas and a curious bassline. it is a track that really keeps you guessing throughout and one that can really add variety to any dj set.

yaleesa hall is back on his home label will & ink with two eps in quick succession. after releasing his debut album in 2016 this is the first solo output from the amsterdam based producer on the label. this first ep is entitled zoe hayley laura and features a trio of tracks that melt electro, techno and broken beats in arresting ways. opening up the ep is zoe price, a silky electro track with shooting synths and big downward bass strikes that add real depth. it s a urgent and arresting affair to wake up the floor. hayley roach then has much more forceful drums that come in one two punch combinations to the gut. synths writhe and gurgle up top as pads rise up and down the scale and the whole thing is brilliantly large. laura pomeroy then rocks back and forth on its heels, with train track like percussion and malfunctioning machine stabs. it s a real tussle between different elements and locks you right in as a result. once again then, the irrepressible yaleesa hall leads from the front.

just as magnified record grooves reveal dust constellations and lunar landscapes, so too does godblesscomputers� third album. �solchi� is a deep search into previous moments in lorenzo nada�s lifetime, influenced by the presence and power of music. his process began with the recovery of some old cassettes, mixtapes nearly forgotten, audio recording of voices from his childhood, and lots of dusty jazz, soul, and hip-hop records. as the starting point of this travel merge with its end, past and present combine to form gbc�s current sound. warm electronic production rooted by grooving bass lines form the core of a kaleidoscope of sixteen tracks, colored by synthesizers, guitar echoes, scratches, samples, fading voices and kalimba. the album is a collection of sixteen stories, sixteen soundscapes, each of them gbc�s tribute to the path taken thus far, an homage to his love for music. the recording and studio work took place over a year, with the adding and subtracting of many elements. for this project, gbc invited several musicians into his home studio, both old friends and new. they helped to recreate the sounds of the original recovered recording, as well as add fresh ideas to the project.

last years on the corner underground smash release, the 12inch ep santuris embaire umeme, introduced uganda�s mugwisa international xylophone group (m.i.x.g) to the world. the recordings center on the embaire, a giant xylophone native to ugandan folk music, which is dug into a pit for a natural, earthy bass resonance as gargantuous as the instrument itself. the instrument performs a key role in village life, with ceremonial playing sessions lasting for hours on end. these recordings may be esoteric in nature but they add important context to the santuri�s embaire umeme 12inch and are a vital documentation of the iganga village�s culture, as well as that of uganda. jones has artfully chopped the epic session into a series of short evocative chapters to create a pioneering masterpiece. remix duties are led by griot house innovators, the diabolcal liberties, who have raved-up some sun ra frequencies for the cosmic junglist crew. last but never least, victoria topping has created beautiful artwork using the session photography taken by jones during the recordings

were super excited to present the latest artist to join the dirt crew stable, french producer sekou babe. he ticked all the right boxes for us with this beautiful debut ep foresight prevents blindness which explores his fresh and vibey outlook on house with sideways glances to smokey jazz, breaks and garage. the a-side lines up three varied tunes. perspectives of the youth and soukoun step in quickly with lively breakbeat rhythms. the first boasting warm soul vocals and steady bass groove, the second a melancholic yet uplifting back and forth between vintage piano and warbling rhodes. treize zero zero trois is a deep and dreamy house jam. cinematic elements infused with punchy percussion and 80s sonic touches add up to good times all round. on the b, our good friend nachtbraker does what he does best, flipping treize zero zero trois bringing the deep, dubby amsterdam vibrations. his version is lush, textural and slightly fruity, with surging synths, tropical percussion and a stomping kick. sekou babe rounds things off with the extravagant crown collection, showing us yet another colour in his musical spectrum. its trip hop meets detroit where warped strings introduce shuffling drums before the track begins to build layering subtle arpeggios, smooth pads, crash hits and a buoyant melody. sekou babe would like to add that all tracks were written and produced by b.b. at 7e republique studio and says thanks to peter, ghizlene, mohammed and florian, you beautiful souls.

joran van pol is back on minus with edge, a fantastic four track ep that is his first on the label since 2013. in the years since, the amsterdam based artist has set up his own fade label and has continued to evolve his cinematic techno sound. previously, van pol has also released on labels like rejected, sci+tec and ideal audio, and has the support of all the big techno players who often reach for his tunes in their sets. as a dj he is just as in demand, with headline slots everywhere from space ibiza to time warp all behind him. having recently set up a new studio, he is still coming on strong with fresh inspiration and ever more essential grooves. �illos opens things with seven spooky minutes of icy techno. rolling rubbery drums pump away below, and the details up top make for an evocative soundscape with distant industrial sounds, groaning bass and razor sharp hi hats all filling your mind with imagery. next comes title track �edge, another brilliant sonic landscape with tense chords repeating over ticking percussion. its a track that builds tension throughout, and keeps you looking over your shoulder into the eerie blackness. the perfectly high pressure �return is one that locks you in and never lets up, with warped synths snaking above traintrack like drums and hits. a dark, rumbling bassline and the sounds of pistons releasing air all add to the intensity of this brainmelting bit of futuristic techno. last but not least, �frostbite is then the most spacious and spooky offering of the lot. it has freaky alien sound designs scattered around the track with supple kicks driving the whole thing forwards. its an absorbing cut that hurries along and takes you for a thrilling ride. these are four more inventive techno tracks from one of the contemporary scenes brightest stars.

optimo music don�t generally do limited edition releases but when the golden filter did these extra mixes of �end of times�, the a1 track off their recent ep we thought they were too good to remain in the digital domain so have pressed up a small run of 12� singles aimed specifically at djs. the original single version is a future synth classic. these new dub versions take it to the dancefloor and have been tried and tested around the world over the last few months. they are considerably extended, dubbed out and add extra dynamics & ecstatic synth power with hints of the original vocal. there is a slo mo version at 103 bpm and a faster version at 118bpm which means the track should work any time from warm up to peak set. there is also a drone-apella version included too.
